What is LETS?

LETS stands for Local Exchange Trading Scheme. There are over 400 LETS schemes in the UK today. It's a scheme that allows local people to exchange goods and services with one another without using money. People come together to barter amongst themselves.

This site explains the scheme that operates in Reading.

 Our currency is  Readies: As a rough guide, 10 Readies is equivalent to an agreed unit of labour, although traders may agree that the labour requires more Readies per hour (e.g. heavy digging), or less (e.g. giving a lift locally).
